ITFVHA

International Task Force on Vehicle-Highway Automation

15 September 2024, Dubai

ITFVHA explained

What is ITFVHA?

Founder Richard Bishop created ITFVHA “back in the day” as government sponsored automated driving projects were gaining momentum. After 25 meetings, the torch was passed on to Tom Alkim. The meeting has become an annual opportunity to collaborate and share perspectives across the diverse players in this thriving space.

The purpose of this invitation-only meeting is to provide a forum for information exchange and discussion among researchers, government officials, and the private sector regarding ongoing programs to develop and deploy automated driving. The task force uniquely takes a “big picture” approach, knowing that technical symposia regularly address the technological underpinnings of such systems, and examines ways in which the government authorities, the infrastructure, and the vehicle industry can collaborate/cooperate to most effectively offer these services to society.

Previous meeting

With more than 50 participants from all over the world, the 26th ITFVHA meeting in San Francisco was a memorable event. It was the first time, after the passing of the torch from founder Richard Bishop to Tom Alkim last year, that Tom organized this meeting by himself. He couldn't have done it without the support of Billy Riggs, Nathan Karkoski and Shannon Mark of the University of San Francisco. It was a wonderful day of information exchange and discussion among researchers, government officials, and the private sector regarding ongoing programs to develop and deploy automated driving. At the end of the day, after dinner, several rides in fully automated vehicles were offered to the participants.

Thanks go out to our sponsors University of San Francisco, Robotic Research AI, Intertraffic, University of Geneva, TPG, SAAM and AMG. With their generous contributions we could organize this meeting without registration fee and have the traditional group dinner where discussions continued and the ITFVHA community grows closer each edition.
